San Juan Chamula is the coldest Tostsil community at 2260 meters above sea level. This community is full of mountains, there for full of frost, and heavy wool.

Before the conquest, cotton quilts and woven strips of rabbit fur marded off the chill but the sheep's wool brought by the Spaniards proved to be a superior material for clothing.

Chamula's clothing has evolved a lot through the years, now a days, they are known for their fur-like fabric. Using a weft with extremely long fibers, the wool is woven, dyed, shrunk, felted, and then combed to draw out the long wool strands.
